Mataram is the capital city of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province. The city is surrounded by West Lombok Regency and Lombok Strait. It is also the largest city in Lombok Island with a land area of 61.3 km2 and a coastline of 9 km.

Mataram City is an autonomous region located in a small island of Lombok which has a high population density. Total population in 2019 amounted to 486,715 people. Mataram City contributes to 13.7% of the total population in Lombok Island.
