Following the completion of Climate Action Plan (CAP) adaptation and mitigation training and technical assistance in July 2023, Cirebon City’s Climate Working Group (Pokja) reconvened in a coordination meeting to examine the updated progress of CAP analysis.
On December 14th, 2023, the Field Officer (FO), accompanied by the CRIC Project Coordinator, Dina W. Saputri conducted a coordination meeting with the CAP consultant in the Regional Planning Agency (Bappeda)’s Cirebon Office. The meeting was attended by the entire CAP consultant member, led by Mr. Abi Rafdi as the leader, an academician from the University of Gunung Jati, Ms. Dea and Ms. Diandra as representatives from Bappeda, Mr. Aziz and Mr. Wahyu from the Environmental Agency. The meeting also featured Ms. Dini, from Food, Fisheries, and Agriculture Agency (DKP3), as a representative from the AFOLU (Agriculture, Forestry, and Other Land Use) sector to discuss the assumptions used in the calculations for their respective sectors.
During the meeting, CRIC Project Coordinator emphasised the need to bridge the gap between the CAP analysis and concrete action, urging the the CAP consultant to associate the adaptation and mitigation analysis result with a local action plan, specifically addressing waste management, a key thematic issue for Cirebon city.
Since August 2023, the CAP consultant of Cirebon city, assisted by FO, have been developing the CAP analysis and report. The climate adaptation has shown significant progress in the analysis result and the writing process. In the mitigation part, the progress has been reviewing each sectors’ calculations of GHG emissions and their assumptions, leaving no stone unturned. Furthermore, FO assisted with CCROM will recalculate the GHG calculation in each sector to later determine the accurate city’s GHG emission profile.
Mr. Abi Rafdi presented the interim result of climate adaptation and mitigation analysis in front of 22 members of City Working Group (Pokja) on December 15th 2023. The potential impact analysis, based on23 key indicators, revealed a stark reality: Kesepuhan sub-district in Lemahwungkuk district faces the highest climate change threats.
Mr. Luthfi from the Housing and Settlement Agency of Cirebon city added “We should pay attention to the housing growth and land use change phenomena in the coastal area, as it will represent why people on the Kesepuhan area becoming more sensitive and prone to the impacts of climate change”.
Ms. Dea, a Bappeda staff member, conveyed the city’s commitment to integrating the CAP results and findings with the ongoing Long-Term Regional Planning Document (RPJPD) preliminary draft.
Finally, to ensure lasting climate action in the city,the Pokja recognised the needs of a robust data transfer system among relevant government and non-government agencies such as Bappeda, Statistics Agency (BPS), and Communication and Information Agency (DKIS), under the Cirebon Satu Data portal. This is aimed at streamlining monitoring and evaluation of future climate initiatives, promoting efficiency and success.
