The Climate Resilient and Inclusive Cities (CRIC) Project is actively supporting pilot cities in integrating climate mitigation and adaptation strategies into their long-term development plans (RPJPD). This initiative aims to guide sustainable growth in CRIC pilot cities of Kupang, Banjarmasin, Ternate, and Gorontalo.
On May 6, 2024, the first RPJPD discussion took place in Kupang, where CRIC Field Officer, Rizki Satria, along with CRIC climate working group members and local stakeholders collaborated to incorporate climate action into the city’s RPJPD.
Kupang City Planning Agency has incorporated climate change actions in Kupang City Long Term Development Plan (RPJPD) 2025-2045. In total there are 472 climate mitigation and adaptation action plans from 15 local government working units that will be analysed as part of the city’s RPJPD.
The second RPJPD meeting was held online via Zoom on May 8, 2024. CRIC Project Manager, Hizbullah Aried and Field Officer Kesuma Yanti, supported by a CRIC Climate Action Plan (CAP) writer consultant, engaged with Banjarmasin Planning Agency officials to discuss the inclusion of climate action in their RPJPD.
Hizbullah Arief highlighted CRIC’s four-year effort in collecting climate data through participatory, bottom up approaches involving local government unites and CRIC Climate Working Groups. This data includes greenhouse gas inventories, projections, baselines, and current emissions across various sectors such as agriculture, land use, waste and energy. The data serves as a foundation for climate mitigation actions. For adaptation, CRIC has developed risk and vulnerability profiles and priority maps to guide climate adaptation efforts.
CRIC Project is currently still developing complete climate mitigation and adaptation plans which will guide cities’ climate change mitigation and adaptation actions. Working with CRIC partners CRIC Project is also preparing thematic tools and action plans on early warning systems, water and sanitation, and waste management.
The latest RPJPD coordination meetings took place on July 22 2024 in Ternate, and on July 29 in Gorontalo. During these public consultations, CRIC team members, including legislative members and climate working group participants, discussed the Strategic Environmental Assessment for the 2024-2045 RPJPD. CRIC Project played a crucial role in guiding the calculation of greenhouse gas emissions, which are integral to Ternate’s long-term development plan.
CRIC Project’s contributions to the RPJPD will continue in other pilot cities, ensuring that climate actions remain a central component of urban planning and development.
